Get the reading before you dose
Use a CYA turbidity test and read it in bright outdoor light with your back to the sun.
- Do not backwash or drain immediately after adding granular stabilizer.
- Wait up to a week for CYA to fully show on a test.

High CYA makes chlorine less active and usually requires higher FC targets. The calculator is best used to raise low CYA into range, not to push an already stable pool higher.
How soon should I retest after adding granular stabilizer?
Wait several days before trusting the new CYA reading. Granular stabilizer dissolves slowly, so an immediate test can make it look like the calculator under-dosed.
